Castles

Val di Non is also known as the valley of castles. Traveling through the valley you will see 10 of them sprout from promontories and hills, among villages, apple orchards and woods.

In some of these castles the owners still live there!
The 5 castles open to the public are Castel Thun, Castel Valer, Castel Coredo, Castel Nanno and Castel Belasi.

Castel Valer

You can admire this magnificent manor directly from the balcony of your room in our farmhouse.
Castel Valer is one of the most elegant and well-preserved castles in the valley. It stands in a panoramic position completely immersed in the apple orchards.
More than a thousand years of history intertwine within the walls of Castel Valer, between historical and private events of the Spaur family. The extraordinary aspect of the castle is that it is a manor still inhabited by the same noble family. Crossing the gates of Castel Valer will be like taking a journey through time and seeing a part of the history of Europe flow before your eyes. Thanks to an accompaniment narrated by expert guides you will be able to admire the chapel of San Valerio, the courtyard, the gardens, the cellar, the hall of coats of arms, the Gothic kitchen, the adjacent studies, the loggia, the Madrid rooms and the Salone Ulrico.
You can visit the castle only with a guided tour that must be booked by calling 0463 830133.
The visit lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Castel Nanno:

Castel Nanno is located a short distance from Castel Valer.
What immediately catches the eye is the particular shape that distinguishes it from the other castles in the valley. Its architecture in fact recalls the Italian villas of the fifteenth century. It stands on a hill and for this reason you can easily see it from every point of the valley. It has an austere and elegant shape with a central turret that follows the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites behind it.
The interiors of the castle are not furnished and what they offer are the architecture of the spaces, the wooden ceilings, the painted walls and the magnificent view from the windows.
Castel Nanno is open from June: every Sunday in the months of June, July, September and October from 10.00 to 17.00.
In August the castle is also open on Saturdays as well as Sundays.
You do not need to book the visit, just show up at the entrance where you will buy the ticket. Then the guide in the garden will give you all the explanations about the castle so you can then continue to visit the interiors independently.
The visit lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Castel Thun:

The castle stands on a hill not far from Vigo di Ton. It enjoys a panoramic position over the entire valley.
The castle has undergone a careful and demanding restoration and was opened to the public in 2010.
To access the castle, reservations are required and must be made online at www.smartbooking.it.
Opening hours: From May 1st to November 7th: Tuesday to Sunday 10.00-18.00.
From 9 November to 30 April 2022 Saturday and Sunday 9.30-17.00.
Closed on non-holiday Mondays, December 25th and January 1st.

Castel Belasi:

Castel Belasi is the true sentinel of the Val di Non: no one goes unnoticed in this manor! In fact, Castel Belasi is located close to the southern entrance of the Val di Non, which has the name of Rocchetta. It is a narrow passage between the rocks and acts as a watershed between the Val d’Adige and Val di Non. It is a strategic passage because it is obligatory and Castel Belasi dominates it from above. Its traces date back to the thirteenth century and still today it appears as a massive and well fortified castle, as evidenced by the two suspended sentry boxes. After major restoration works it was opened to the public in 2019.
In the months of June, September and October the castle can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 18:00.
In the months of July and August the castle can be visited every day except on Mondays from 10:00 to 18:00.
Reservations are not required to visit the castle.

Castel Coredo:

Castel Coredo is a little known castle, perhaps precisely because it is hidden and protected by trees on a hill at the edge of the town of Coredo. This castle is still habitable today but the owners only spend short periods here.
From 2019 it is possible to visit it accompanied by a guide who in addition to Castel Coredo also takes you to visit Palazzo Nero in the center of the town.
Of Castel Coredo, the private spaces, the large hall and the important picture gallery are striking. There is no shortage of period furnishings and objects, some of which are very curious.
Castel Coredo opens in June and can be visited every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 am. From July to mid-September, guided tours are scheduled every day at 10:30 am and 3:30 pm. From mid-September and in October, however, the opening will be only on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 am. You can visit the castle only with a guided tour that must be booked by calling 0463 830133.

Every year a special visit to these magical places is organized through the TRENINO DEI CASTELLI.
